Cornerstone Christian School
Cornerstone Christian School (CCS) is a non-traditional Christian school which includes grade level instruction, as well as multi-generational learning environments. CCS has the flexibility to meet the needs of each student and to create programs on an individual basis. It is an educational model based on the truth of God’s Word and utilizing the life-lesson style which Jesus used with his disciples. All textbooks which are part of the curriculum at CCS are from Christian publishers.
The morning instruction includes core curriculum in the areas of Bible, mathematics, science, language, and social studies, as well as foreign languages. These classes utilize Alpha Omega Publications’ Switched-On Schoolhouse program. Switched-On Online is a Web-based learning environment featuring a media-rich, online curriculum for grades 3 through 12. With 3-D animation, video clips, and other exciting multimedia, we have found Switched-On Online to be a perfect fit for our Christian school.
Unlike traditional textbook curriculums, Switched-On Online has a diverse, vibrant mix of entertaining lessons, assignments, and quizzes. Fun-filled lessons are created to captivate students’ attention and engage them in learning. Interactive learning games, Web links, and off-computer projects create opportunities for in-depth study. This state-of-the-art learning environment helps train students in the areas of critical thinking and self-motivation.
At Cornerstone, we utilize trained and qualified facilitators to monitor the program, grade essays, lead discussions, answer questions, and supervise projects. Having facilitators keeps the cost of private education down, as well as prepares students for college level responsibilities.
Though the SOS program is the core of the instruction, there is a great amount of interaction with the facilitators, a time for sharing and prayer, individual and class projects, group activities, and modeling Christian character traits.
Afternoons are spent in FLEX time (Following the Lord’s Example). This new practical application concept is one that includes service projects, mission outreaches, “hands-on” learning, participation in the fine arts, and in-the-field instruction.
