About Us
Overview

When six Marshfield physicians pooled their medical expertise in 1916 to form Marshfield Clinic, they built the foundation for what has grown to become one of the largest private, multispecialty group practices in the United States.

With 790 physicians in 80 medical specialties and subspecialties located in over 40 centers throughout northern, central and western Wisconsin, Marshfield Clinic is on the move. Although Marshfield Clinic has become synonymous with the city of Marshfield , the Clinic's "community" goes well beyond the immediate area, embracing nearly all of Wisconsin and much of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Research

The Clinic's willingness to explore new horizons has resulted in numerous medical and service innovations. Its research division, Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation (MCRF), was established in 1959. Housed in the Lawton Center and the Melvin R. Laird Center, MCRF scientists conduct research on healthcare and public health. Areas of focus include; clinical research, rural and agricultural health and safety, human genetics, epidemiology and biomedical informatics. Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Education
The Marshfield Clinic Education Foundation also has a history of strong commitment to education and public service. Full residency programs for recent medical school graduates are: internal medicine, pediatrics, medicine and pediatrics, dermatology, surgery and transitional year. All programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) of the American Medical Association.

About 125 members of the Marshfield Clinic staff hold clinical teaching appointments from the University of Wisconsin - Madison medical school.

Security Health Plan
Security Health Plan is the health maintenance organization owned by Marshfield Clinic. It provides health care coverage for more than 115,000 people in a 29-county service area in northern, western and central Wisconsin. Security Health Plan offers a network of 26 affiliated hospitals, more than 2,750 affiliated physicians and other providers, and over 45,000 pharmacies nationwide. Security Health Plan was created in 1986 as an outgrowth of Greater Marshfield Health Plan, which was established in 1971.

Net earnings from Security Health Plan don't go to shareholders or get paid out in dividends. Income is invested back into Security Health Plan and Marshfield Clinic to build on the responsive care we give to our members and patients.

Outreach
An integral part of health care delivery at Marshfield Clinic is the Outreach Services program. Currently, there are over 1,200 hospitals, clinics, and other sites participating in a variety of outreach programs originating from the Clinic.

Examples of the services provided include off-site physician consultation (involving 45 specialties), a 24-hour EKG interpretation via computer, mobile echocardiography, reference laboratory, regional blood banking, radiology, EEGs, orthotics/prosthetics, radiation physics, pulmonary function, and bio-medical electronics.

Marshfield Clinic, in concert with the Foundation and Saint Joseph's Hospital-Marshfield, has also established numerous outreach medical education programs to complement those offered at the central facility.

Flexibility has been a key part of the Clinic's philosophy for nearly 90 years. Planning is a continuous process, enabling Marshfield Clinic to provide for patient needs--now and in the future--in the most effective way. This philosophy allows Marshfield Clinic to thrive and expand in the rapidly changing climate of health services delivery.
